Developer / Engineer (FIWARE / IoT)

Job description

Seeking a Software Developer/Engineer intrigued by Data genuinely and making a Positive difference to Society and the Environment.

The amount of available urban data grows exponentially. Smart and ethical use of data helps to create a more livable, sustainable, safe, and inviting city. These two subjects, data, and smart cities are what fuels the ambitions of our business. We combine our knowledge of local government, insight into urban processes, belief in the power of networks, and passion for data to deliver outstanding services for cities. We do this by connecting suppliers of all sorts of data through our City Innovation Platform with users of the data.

To further develop our platform, we are looking for an experienced developer to join our team. Do you have an in-depth knowledge of the internet of things (IoT), interest in open platforms for smart digital futures (FIWARE-components), and an understanding of data logistics? If the answer is yes, look no further. We want to meet you.

As a Developer, you participate in large European Smart City projects on topics like energy transition (, sustainable water management, and citizen engagement. You extend and improve our City Innovation Platform by integrating, transforming, and harmonizing third-party real-time data. You make data available via open APIs to allow reuse for new applications, insights, and projects.

As a Developer, we encourage you to discover the possibilities of different FIWARE-components (e.g., Orion Contextbroker, Quantumleap, NGSI LD, Complex Event Processing) to improve the processing, storing, and presenting of data through Open APIs and to familiarize yourself with underlying processes like ActiveMQ , API-management, and Identity management.

At Civity, we believe in an open and transparent organization, and you want you to participate in all parts of the company. In return, you are part of a motivated team, you get much freedom, and you work in a challenging environment where we only use open source software.

About Civity

At Civity, we are fascinated by the smart city concept and the possibilities that data offers when solving urban challenges. We find technology interesting, but always in service of the residents, businesses, and visitors of the city. We are curious to know about new features, solutions, and partners and are continuously learning to improve ourselves to continue to exceed expectations.

To show what we can do with data, we developed several solutions ourselves, like Slim Melden (Smart Reporting), an app, broker, and a data-solution for issues that occur in public space. Another project is our bikesniffer project. With a partner, we deployed 500 mobile sensors on bicycles to measure routes, air quality, and road conditions. Besides the collection of data, we also develop the data visualizations for these projects.
